Dúo is an audiovisual production of Polar Star Films in co-production with Pensilvania Films, Paraiso Production and Manufactura de Películas

Sinopsis

After 24 years of sharing professional and personal life, Monica and Colate commence what will be their last dance tour. In DUO they attempt to maintain the balance when pushed to their physical and emotional limits. At an altitude of 4,000 metres, the Atacama Desert will test the limits of their relationship and their bodies.

DUO is the inner journey of two characters and also a contemporary dance show performed in schools and squares of isolated villages. A road movie through the stunning Andes landscapes of Argentina and Chile. To the low beat of the chayera drum accompanied by voices from soul and blues, the confrontation of the two worlds ignites the prospect of a wealth of encounters.

DUO is produced by Polar Star Films (Spain), Paraiso Production (France), Pensilvania Films (Argentina) and Manufactura de Películas (Chile).

The project has been awarded prizes at SSIFF, Málaga Mafiz and Sofia Meeting YAPIMLAB, and is supported by ICAA, ICEC, INCAA and IBERMEDIA funding. DUO has been developed with Proyecta Ventana Sur, Marche du Films in Cannes, Abycine Lanza, and received a dance workshop residency at L’animal a l’esquena.

Mónica, a 47-year old dancer, receives a call from Spain: her father is terminally ill. After 20 years, Mónica must return to the remote village where she was born. When she arrives, her father has already passed away and her mother decides to sell the family home asking Mónica to stay to help her.
Winter comes. The perpetual silence, the extreme cold and the difficulty of living with her mother are proving tough for Mónica, who takes refuge in what she knows best: dance.
Facing the Wind tells the story of a family unable to communicate. It is indeed a thoughtful and loving portrait of a traditional rural lifestyle, which is beginning to disappear. It’s a story about distances. But most of all, Facing the Wind is an inner journey to learn again how to live and love better.

Facing the Wind is a Spain-Argentina-France coproduction produced by Polar Star Films, Habitación 1520 and Paraiso Production, supported by ICAA, INCAA, Eurimages, Cinéfondation L’Atelier, REC and Sources 2.

A colourful group of women find their cultural prejudices broken during a language-class outing to the beach. Indian Shari seems the most introverted and out of place, but in the end proves to be the one most receptive to her surroundings and unites the group. Looks, glances, actions and reactions tell a story of group dynamics with barely four words of dialogue.

“The Bathers” was the first short film in Spain to be completed using a digital intermediate, a process where a high definition scan of the negative is worked on digitally and then used to produce the finished film in 35mm.
