This 75th edition of the Berlinale will World Premiere Only on Earth<\/em><\/a> in this year\u2019s competitive Generation<\/strong> section. The visually striking documentary takes audiences deep into Southern Galicia, one of Europe\u2019s most wildfire-prone regions, during the hottest summer on record.<\/p>\n

Through the perspectives of wild horses, a young cowboy, a fire analyst, an equine vet, and a farming family, Only on Earth<\/em> explores the fragile balance between humans, animals, and a rapidly changing environment. The film sheds light on the critical role of Galicia\u2019s wild horses in fire prevention and the growing tensions between nature and human development.<\/p>\n

Danish director Robin Petr\u00e9<\/strong>, known for her cinematic explorations of the coexistence of humans, animals, and nature, brings her signature poetic approach to the film. An alumna of Berlinale Talents<\/strong> and the Sundance Institute<\/strong>, Petr\u00e9 previously premiered her debut feature-length documentary From the Wild Sea<\/em> in the Berlinale Generation section in 2021. Her short film Pulse<\/em> won a Silver Dove at DOK Leipzig<\/strong>, and her work has been recognized at festivals worldwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor as long as I can remember, I have had a strong connection to, and appreciation of, the natural world,\u201d says Petr\u00e9. \u201cYet whenever I return to the rural environment I grew up in, I’m troubled by how rapidly the landscape has been changing. I hope this film will leave a lasting impression on the audience as an unshakeable, unforgettable experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
