She receives a call in Buenos Aires: her father is terminally ill. After 20 years, M\u00f3nica must return to the remote village in Burgos, Spain, where she was born. When she arrives, her father has already passed away and her mother decides to sell the family home, asking M\u00f3nica to stay to help her. Winter comes. The perpetual silence, extreme cold, and facing up to a dysfunctional family, prove tough for M\u00f3nica, who takes refuge in what she knows best: dance.<\/p>\n<p>The film marries dance, documentary and cine d\u2019auteur to create a singular tale of home ties and relationships.\u00a0<em>Facing the Wind<\/em>\u00a0stars M\u00f3nica Garcia, real-life choreographer and dancer, alongside Concha Canal a first-time actor at 87 years old.\u00a0 Goya winner Ana Fern\u00e1ndez (<em>Solas, Historia de un beso, You\u2019re the one<\/em>) and Elena Mart\u00edn (<em>J\u00falia Ist, Les Amigues de l\u2019Agata<\/em>) complete the cast.<\/p>\n<p>Director Meritxell Colell is regarded as one of a new generation of talented female directors in Spain who was selected for Cin\u00e9fondation L\u2019Atelier at Cannes to develop Facing the Wind. Films she has edited have been selected at Thessaloniki Film Festival, IDFA Amsterdam, Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, DocumentaMadrid, Ventana Sur and Al Jazeera International Documentary Film Festival.\u00a0 Since 2007, she combines teaching cinema with her work as a filmmaker.
