After its premiere at Almer\u00eda FICAL festival, short documentary The Concierge <\/em>will compete in the Official Selection of \u00a032\u00ba\u00a0Aguilar de Campoo Film Festival, 4th \u2013 13th of December.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCristian is convinced he\u2019s a superhero\u201d Carmen says of her husband, a concierge who continues working when Spain goes into national lock-down in March 2020 due to Covid-19.<\/p>\n

The film\u00a0follows Cristian Alem\u00e1n, a concierge passionate about his job and driven to help people. In the microcosm of the building where he works in Barcelona we discover how the neighbours, mostly elderly men and women, are experiencing the pandemic. Cristian shops for those who can’t leave their homes and cleans the building to stop the virus spreading. He also encourages residents to confront the hardship with a positive attitude, “with respect for the virus, but without fear<\/em>“.<\/p>\n

His attitude to the crisis clashes with his wife Carmen\u2019s growing fears: she is scared. Carmen works in a hospital but is on leave because she is at high risk of infection due to diabetes and is struggling to cope. She has seen first-hand the devastation the virus can cause; her co-worker died after becoming infected.\u00a0\u00a0She wasn’t able to say goodbye or go to his funeral.<\/p>\n

The Concierge<\/em>\u00a0is the latest film from award-winning directors Marcel\u00a0Mettelsiefen and Mayte Carrasco whose recent projects include the documentary series:\u00a0Afghanistan, the Wounded Land<\/em>\u00a0for\u00a0NDR, ARTE and Al Jazeera.\u00a0\u00a0Previous work by Mettelsiefen has been nominated for an Oscar by the Hollyword Academy and\u00a0has been awarded with two Baftas and three Emmys. \u00a0Carrasco has received a number of awards including Best\u00a0Foreign\u00a0Correspondent (CIP) and the IRIS Award (Academia\u00a0de\u00a0Televisi\u00f3n\u00a0y de las Ciencias y las\u00a0Artes)\u00a0for her coverage of the war in Syria.<\/p>\n
