The Filmoteca de Catalunya presents the documentary When the Mountain Rumbles as part of its Dies Curts 2025 program.
The 28-minute short film, directed by Alba Bresolí Aliberch and co-produced by Polar Star Films, with support from ICEC and ICAA, will be screened on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Sala Laya (Plaça Salvador Seguí, Barcelona).
Synopsis:
In the 1950s, the village of Escó (Huesca) was expropriated to build a reservoir. The Guallar family —brothers Félix, Baltasar, and Evaristo— refused to leave. Today they still live isolated with their flock, until a new threat arrives: a highway.
When the Mountain Rumbles has received international recognition at festivals such as Málaga (Special Jury Mention), IndieLisboa, DocumentaMadrid (Youth Jury Award), Sheffield, D’A, Manlleu, Manaki Brothers, Cerdanya, Foradcamp, Granada, IDFA (“Best of Fests”), Catalan Film Festival Scotland, and has been nominated for the Gaudí and Goya Awards, also winning at Big Sky and GoShort.
About the director:
With an empathetic and collective gaze, Alba Bresolí explores rural landscapes and tight-knit communities with remarkable sensitivity. The Dies Curts session will also include her works Domus (2020) and El bon auguri (2024), highlighting her intimate and politically engaged style.
