We’re thrilled to share that Only on Earth, directed by Robin Petré, has received the Award for Best Cinematography and a Special Mention for the Green Warsaw Award at the 21st Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival in Poland.
After a powerful Polish premiere, the film was recognized by the festival jury for its poetic and urgent exploration of our rapidly changing relationship with nature. Set in the fire-prone mountains of southern Galicia, Only on Earth immerses viewers in the lived experience of both humans and wild animals as they navigate life amid record-breaking heat and devastating wildfires.
The film was praised for its deeply sensory approach and powerful storytelling, offering a rare and intimate look at a region on the frontlines of climate transformation. The Cinematography Jury highlighted how the film’s visual language acts “like an animal—revealing what is hidden from view,” capturing “the quiet beauty of human helplessness” and asking, with quiet urgency: What future remains for us on this planet?
The Green Warsaw Award Jury emphasized the film’s emotional resonance and subtle storytelling, noting that Only on Earth does not “shout or preach,” but instead “gently whispers to the most sensitive part of us” — powerfully illustrating how human actions disrupt the delicate balance between people and their environment.
